The History of Our Company & Oyatsu Mart
Our Story: Nearly 80 Years of Japanese Snacks
Our story begins in the spring of 1947, in the bustling Kinshicho neighborhood of Tokyo's Sumida ward. In the years following the war, as Japan began to rebuild and rediscover the small joys of daily life, we opened our doors as a humble confectionery wholesaler — a single storefront with a simple mission: to bring the sweets and snacks that brought smiles to Japanese families.
A few years later, in 1951, we reorganized into a corporation, laying the foundation for decades of growth ahead. By 1966, we had developed our own "Family Pack" brand — a name chosen to reflect what snacks meant to us. Moments shared around the table. Treats passed between generations. The small pleasures that turn an ordinary afternoon into something memorable.

As Japan's economy boomed through the 1970s, we saw an opportunity to do something no one had done before. In 1970, we formed a business partnership with confectionery wholesalers in Osaka and Nagoya, joining forces for shared purchasing and product development. The following year, we founded a joint venture to formalize the partnership. By 1978, that network had grown to seven companies — and together, we created Japan's first nationwide confectionery distribution network. For the first time, snacks made in one corner of Japan could reach families in every other corner, connecting Tokyo to Osaka, Nagoya, Shikoku, Kyushu, and beyond. It was a quiet revolution, and we were at the heart of it.
Through the 1990s, our influence in the industry continued to grow. Our president was appointed Chairman of the National Confectionery Wholesalers Federation, and later Chairman of the Tokyo Confectionery Wholesalers Association — a recognition of the trust the industry placed in us. In 1997, we celebrated our 50th anniversary. Two years later, we opened our first dedicated Merchandising Center in Tokyo's Edogawa ward to keep pace with the rising variety of Japanese sweets.

The 2000s marked a new chapter. In 2006, we entered into a capital alliance with Marubeni Corporation — one of Japan's most respected trading houses — giving our distribution reach even greater scale and reliability. That same year, we opened sales offices in Niigata and a major logistics center in Funabashi, Chiba. A sales office in Gunma followed in 2007, and through the years we continued expanding: a logistics center in Atsugi in 2016, our Shin-Yokohama Logistics Center in 2019, and most recently our Tohoku Logistics Center in Miyagi Prefecture in 2024 — extending our network deep into northern Japan.
Today, we are one of the leading confectionery distributors in Japan's Kanto region, with a logistics backbone that reaches across the country and relationships with snack makers built over nearly eight decades.
And then, in January 2025, we took the natural next step. After 78 years of bringing Japanese snacks to stores and shelves all over Japan, we launched Oyatsu Mart — our online shop, built to share the snacks we know and love with snack lovers around the world.

When you order from Oyatsu Mart, you're not buying from a reseller or a middleman. You're buying directly from a company that has spent almost 80 years sourcing, distributing, and championing Japanese confectionery. We know these snacks. We know the makers. We know the stories behind them. And now, we get to share them with you.
Welcome to Oyatsu Mart. We've been waiting a long time to meet you.
