Bontan Ame (ボンタンアメ) is a soft, chewy citrus candy made by Seika Foods in Kagoshima, at the southern tip of Japan, since 1924. Each piece is made with glutinous rice for a mochi-like chew, and flavoured with juice from bontan, a large Japanese pomelo, and satsuma mandarin.

Don’t peel it! Every candy is wrapped in a thin, clear edible film (oblaat) made from starch. It melts in your mouth, so eat it just as it is.
